The European species of sect. Lactipedes

Mycena sect lactipedes (Fr.) Quél. is characterized by small to medium sized species that are exuding a milk white to watery white fluid from the stipe when cut. In Europe only two (or three) species: M. erubescens, M. galopus (and M. leucogala).

Many authors consider M. leucogala to be merely a dark variety of M. galopus (as Robich 2003 and Emmet et al. 2008). Maas Geesteranus (1988 d), however, recognized it as a species of its own. I have chosen to follow his view.
