A small, white, funnel-shaped fungus with a glabrous pileus, absence of cheilo- and pileocystidia, 4-spored basidia (rarely 2-spored), diverticulate pileipellis hyphae, and smooth stipitipellis hyphae.

Pileus 2-8 mm across, at first campanulate, becoming convex to applanate, truncate to umbilicate, eventually funnel-shaped, almost like a flower, glabrous, entirely white. Lamellae 0-10, deeply decurrent, vein-like and often poorly developed, usually not reaching the margin of the pileus, white. Stipe 4-20 x 0.1-0.5 mm, cylindrical, somewhat broadening towards apex, finely pruinose, white, base covered with white, strigose fibrils. Smell not distinct.

Basidia 4-spored (rarely 2-spored). Spores 8-12 x (2.5-)3-4.5 µm, subfusoid, cylindrical to somewhat tapering towards pronounced apiculus, smooth, non-amyloid. Hymenial cystidia absent. Hymenophoral trama not dextrinoid. Hyphae of the pileipellis 2.5-9 µm wide, covered with wart- to finger-like, simple, rarely branched excrescences -8 x 2 µm. Stipitipellis 3-8 µm wide, smooth. Caulocystidia often in clusters, 10-40 x 2-6 µm, subcylindrical, often flexuous, sometimes with subcapitate apex. Clamp connections abundunt in all tissues.

Occuring on dead leaves and grasses, on leaf sheaths of Juncus and Scirpus, Carex and other monecotyledons in open grasslands and wetlands. Summer to autumn. Very rare but probably overlooked. In Norway recorded in Vestfold, Telemark and Finnmark.
